Our Story
ChurchHope began in 2014 in a rented dance studio on Kallidromiou Street, Exarcheia, with eleven adults and four restless children sitting on borrowed plastic chairs. Founders **Andreas Petropoulos** (a former hospital chaplain from Patras) and **Marta Liakou-Brennan** (a Greek-Irish counsellor who had returned from Dublin during the financial crisis) wanted a church that felt like the kitchen table of a friend who actually listens. They were tired of services where strangers stayed strangers, and tired of religion that asked people to clean themselves up before walking in. The first Sunday, Andreas preached for fourteen minutes about doubt. Marta led a song nobody knew yet. Afterwards everyone ate avgolemono soup that Marta's mother had cooked.
